16 Halloween Almond Nails, Written Like Spells From a Very Stylish Witch’s Notebook
The first time I got almond nails for Halloween, I asked my tech for “something spooky.” She looked at my soft, tapered nails and said, “Almond is a shape that already looks a little enchanted. We just have to not ruin it.”
She was right. Almond nails are narrow at the tip and gently curved at the sides, so they already look like little petals or moons. Halloween art works best on them when it follows the curve instead of fighting it: drips that run toward the point, webs that hug a corner, gradients that fade along the taper.
So I wrote this like pages from a spellbook. Each spell has a name, a look, and a bit of advice from me. Read through, pick the one that calls to you, and the extras follow the spells.
The Spellbook
Spell 1: The Milk Ghost.

Sheer milky white or pale gray on all ten nails, with one small ghost floating near the tip of the ring finger. Two dot eyes, a wavy bottom, done. The almond point makes the ghost look like it is drifting upward. Beginner-friendly, and quiet enough for the office.
Spell 2: Black Cherry Web.

A deep black cherry base with a thin gold web in the corner of one nail. Anchor the first line at the nail’s widest side and let it curve toward the point. This is my “elegant witch” spell, and it looks best with velvet and gold hoops.
Spell 3: The Dripping Tip.

A nude base with deep red drips falling from the point. On almond nails, the drips look longest when they start right at the taper. Make each one a different length and give one drip a glossy dot at the end. Dramatic, but not messy.
Spell 4: Moonlit Chrome.

A pale silver or pearl chrome over a sheer base, with a tiny crescent moon sticker at the cuticle of one nail. The curved almond surface catches light beautifully. This is best done at a salon because chrome needs a gel lamp.
Spell 5: The Pumpkin Ember.

Burnt orange fading into black at the tips, like a pumpkin glowing in a dark room. Sponge the colors on, dabbing rather than dragging. Because almond tips are narrow, the black gathers into a soft point, and it looks like a real flame.
Spell 6: Witch’s Plum Half-Moon.

A sheer nude base with a deep plum crescent at each cuticle and one tiny gold star. It is subtle enough for work and still says “witch” to anyone who looks closely.
Spell 7: The Black Cat Curl.

Peach or pale orange base with a small black cat sitting near the cuticle of one nail. Keep the body an oval, the head a circle, the ears two triangles, and the tail a curved line. The rest of the nails stay plain black.
Spell 8: Velvet Potion.

Deep green or purple magnetic polish. Hold the magnet at an angle so the shimmer band follows the diagonal of the almond point. It shifts like liquid in a bottle when you move your hand.
Spell 9: Bone Lines.

A matte black base with thin white bone lines running down each finger. On almond nails, run the lines along the length of the nail so they lengthen your fingers. Stickers make this much easier than a brush.
Spell 10: The Candy Curse.

A French tip in candy corn bands, but curved to follow the almond point instead of a straight line. Use a thin brush or curved stickers. It is playful, and it reads as “cute Halloween” without being childish.
Spell 11: Graveyard Fog.

Charcoal at the tips fading into a misty, sheer gray at the cuticle, with a few thin black branch lines. Paint the branches only after the gradient dries completely, and keep them very thin.
Spell 12: Rose Gold Séance.

A dusty rose base with a rose gold chrome line following the curve of the free edge and a few tiny stars. It suits anyone who wants Halloween nails that look like jewelry.
Spell 13: Glow Ghost Trail.

Black base with tiny glow-in-the-dark dots trailing from the cuticle toward the point on two nails. In daylight they look like polka dots. At night, they glow. Charge them under a bright lamp before you go out.
Spell 14: The Vampire’s Kiss.

A sheer nude base with deep raspberry on the tip only, following the almond taper into a soft point. Add one tiny glossy dot near the end of two nails. It looks romantic, not bloody.
Spell 15: The Green Potion.

Emerald or moss green cream polish with one gold foil accent nail. It is unusual, earthy, and looks incredible with black outfits and cream knits.
Spell 16: Stardust Night Sky.

Midnight blue or deep purple base with tiny gold and silver stars scattered near the tip and one crescent moon on the ring finger. This is my favorite for a party because it works with any costume.
The Almond Sweet Spot Map
Almond nails have zones, and where you place art changes how it looks.
The cuticle zone is wide and stable, perfect for half-moons, stars, and tiny faces. The middle zone is the widest part of the nail, ideal for cats, ghosts, and pumpkins. The taper zone near the tip is narrow, so keep art thin here: drips, French lines, and gradients. Put anything big at the tip and it will look cramped or chip quickly.
A useful rule: one bold detail in the middle zone, a subtle echo in the taper zone, and the rest plain.
Almond Length Guide
Short almond nails suit dots, half-moons, and single accents. Medium almond nails are the sweet spot for almost every spell here. Long almond nails give gradients, chrome, and drips room to breathe. If you are between lengths, choose the shorter one, since almond tips can snag and chip more than round ones.
Counterspells: When Things Go Wrong
If a ghost looks like a blob, wait until it dries and add two eyes and a wavy bottom; the eyes rescue almost everything. If a web line looks wobbly, cover it with a tiny gold star at the joint where the lines meet. If chrome looks patchy, it usually means the top coat was not tacky enough, so redo it over a fresh layer. If the drips run into each other, wipe the extra with a cotton swab dipped in remover and start with thinner polish. If the tip chips, cap the free edge with top coat every few days.
The Night-Of Ritual
On the day of the party, do this in order. Wash and moisturize your hands. File any rough spot at the point so it does not snag a costume. Add a fresh layer of top coat, capping the tip. Massage cuticle oil into each nail. Pack a mini file and a small bottle of top coat in your bag. If a nail cracks, tape it and fix it later; do not peel it.
A Small Warning From the Witch
Almond nails have narrow tips, and that makes them elegant and a little fragile. Skip using them to open cans, and use the pads of your fingers for typing. A little care and they will last through the whole month of October.
Which spell are you casting first? Save this post for your next nail night, and send it to a friend who says her hands are too plain for Halloween.
